A ghostly romance draped in patches of comedy and light-hearted scenes; how does it sound? If it’s what you are craving at the moment, then Zee5 has come up with a new movie, Atithi Bhooto Bhava, that promises to be high on these elements.

It is a Hindi film with a runtime of just under two hours. There’s no pre-release buzz of the flick, partly because of zero promotions and no backing by prominent actors.

I decided to watch the film because its synopsis felt interesting. Hop in and read my Atithi Bhooto Bhava movie review.

Atithi Bhooto Bhava Review Summary

There are several glaring loopholes in Atithi Bhooto Bhava. However, it feels heartwarming and full of love. Furthermore, the movie is powered by beautiful performances from Pratik Gandhi and Jackie Shroff.

I have jotted down the upsides and downsides of the film in my Atithi Bhooto Bhava review.

Atithi Bhooto Bhava Synopsis

For my non-Hindi readers, Atithi Bhooto Bhava is a molded version of Atithi Devo Bhava, a Sanskrit phrase. While the latter means guest is god, the former means guest is a ghost to focus on the theme of the movie.

Srikant is going through a tough phase in his four-year-long live-in relationship with Netra. Every day, they find a new reason to quarrel. Things get messier when Srikant meets the spirit of a man who died years ago. He is older than Srikant but calls himself his Grandson.

They have a common link, and the dead man wants Srikant to fulfill his promise from decades ago. Can Srikant make the ghost meet his childhood sweetheart Manju?

Directed by Hardik Gajjar, Atithi Bhooto Bhava stars Jackie Shroff (Makhan), Pratik Gandhi (Srikant), Sharmin Segal (Netra), and Divinaa Thakur (Sucharita) in lead roles.

What Works for Atithi Bhooto Bhava?

Concept

Though not new, Atithi Bhooto Bhava comes with an alluring concept where a dead man enters into the life of a living individual. To make things exciting and contrasting at the same time, the makers have created a couple going through a rough phase. They showcase how the ghost’s entry into their house changes their behavior.

For further intrigue, there’s a road journey and the grand theme of sweet romance, where unrequited love is valued and revered even after death.

Music

Songs are getting better with every new OTT release, at least in the Hindi market. Recently, Dr. Arora mesmerized us with some soothing melodies. And now, Atithi Bhooto Bhava is flowered by some mellifluous songs that make you feel the boundless magnitude of love.

Ending

The ending of Atithi Bhooto Bhava made me change the tone of my review. It is one of the most heart-touching conclusions I have seen recently. You will love how things pan out toward the end of the movie. There are no forced climaxes or superficial adventures. Atithi Bhooto Bhava stays limited to its plot and manages to woo you over with a heartening finishing sequence.

Performances

I can write an entire blog on how good Pratik Gandhi is in Atithi Bhooto Bhava. He aces the Punjabi accent stupendously and elevates a mediocre script several notches. The actor doesn’t look out of shape, even for a microsecond. His detailed expressions on top of his well-tuned movements are a treat to watch in Atithi Bhooto Bhava.

Furthermore, he surprised me as an aged man. Pratik masters the character of Daar Ji by bringing every little ounce of facial diction to the screen. He is articulate, adept, and meticulously brilliant in Atithi Bhooto Bhava. As a regular youngster, Pratik brings his natural self to the fore with utter ease.

Jackie Shroff plays a spirit in Atithi Bhooto Bhava. He enters as a dead man but infuses life into the story. His jolly mien works superbly for the film, and Shroff allows his trademark style to do the talking. I loved how he immerses himself in the plot and leads a charming and heartwarming love story.

Also, I must mention that the chemistry between Jackie and Pratik is pleasing to the eyes.

Sharmin Segal, as Netra, does justice to her role and stays within the confines of her character sketch. However, I hope she will get better in upcoming films and shows.

Divinaa Thakur impresses while playing Sucharita in Atithi Bhooto Bhava. She is that friend who can be your caretaker as well as your leg-puller, depending on what time of the day it is. Again, I feel she will grow further from here.

What Doesn’t Work for Atithi Bhooto Bhava?

Lacks Finesse

Many scenes in Atithi Bhooto Bhava lack professionalism. The film has numerous sloppy parts, whether the lead character’s shocking mathematical blooper or a chopped scene of children cracking jokes. Moreover, Atithi Bhooto Bhava sometimes contradicts itself to make the dialogues sound more appealing.

Average Writing

Atithi Bhooto Bhava doesn’t come with a supremely written storyline. It lags and lags a number of times, but thanks to the theme of the film, you never feel like leaving the screen. Had the story been penned better with exclusive dialogues, Atithi Bhooto Bhava might have been a great film.

Final Word

For a one-time heartwarming watch, Atithi Bhooto Bhava serves you perfectly. Nonetheless, saying it is free of errors would be wrong.
