The addition of unexpected fan-favorite characters such as the elder Spider-Men and Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home has generated quite a buzz. Meanwhile, a post-credits sequence in Spider-Man: No Way Home doubles as a new trailer for Doctor Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness.

There is already a tidal wave of conjecture about the upcoming Strange episode, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, that has spread to practically every corner of the internet.

Is Hugh Jackman going to reprise his role as Wolverine? What about Bruce Campbell, a regular collaborator of Sam Raimi’s—will he appear as Ash, or maybe a variation of Mysterio (who he was supposed to portray in Sony’s aborted Spider-Man 4)?

After completing his feature film debut in 2016’s Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch’s namesake sorcerer went on to save the world in several team-up excursions with some other superhero characters, including Iron Man and Captain America.

And with the lives of Peter Parker (Tom Holland), MJ (Zendaya), and Ned (Jacob Batalon) being profoundly affected by Mysterio’s (Jake Gyllenhaal) acts, Strange offers to provide his magical help to the trio. The film is directed by Christopher Miller.

The spell, however, is thrown off course as a result of Peter’s indecisiveness. Consequently, a slew of historical Spider-Man villains reappear in No Way Home and the regular MCU timeline, giving them second chances at redemption.

A Doctor Strange 2 clip, which has since been made publicly available online, revealed that the ramifications of Doctor Strange interfering with the alternative realms of the universe are just getting started. The following is an analysis of the Doctor Strange teaser from the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Trailer

In the trailer, it is implied that the Multiverse of Madness would deal directly with the consequences of the spells that Doctor Strange performed in Spider-Man: No Way Home, namely the one that interfered with space and time and had an effect on the multiverse.

In addition, the teaser reveals the reappearance of Scarlet Witch, with Strange approaching her and begging for assistance with the multiverse. Meanwhile, it provides a first glimpse at the return of Mordo, who was expelled from the Masters of the Mystic Arts after the first film.

It confirms the appearance of Evil Strange, also known as Strange Supreme, who seems to be about the same character presented in Marvel’s What If…? animated television series. From the trailer, Marvel fans can quickly notice that it somehow takes inspiration from What-If episodes.

From the decaying world to fighting tentacle creatures, there are a lot of references in the trailer that we couldn’t overlook. Let’s just dig into that!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and What If…? Connection

“Strange Supreme ” was among the most memorable episodes of the What If…? anthology of alternate-universe Marvel Comics stories, and it was one of the best episodes of the season. As a result of that other origin tale, Stephen Strange was in a car with his longtime girlfriend Christine Palmer when he had a life-changing accident.

Christine lost her life in the accident, leaving Strange with a hand injury that ultimately broke his mountain of an ego. Strange’s study in the mystic arts went awry when he was motivated by sadness rather than vanity in an attempt to thwart fate and prevent Christine’s death, rather than for personal gain.

To achieve the title of “Strange Supreme,” the variation Strange battled, vanquished, and absorbed innumerable magical and demonic creatures to become a being who could alter the course of history.

The tragedy is that all he ended up achieving was destroying his whole world in an epic battle with his own variation, which left Strange Supreme as the only survivor in his reality, damaged and bereft of all his abilities.

Eventually, Strange Supreme found atonement by joining forces with The Watcher, mostly on the Guardians of the Multiverse squad, which could defeat the danger of Infinity Ultron before he was able to rule the multiverse.

Who will be Dr. Strange’s Nemesis?

Although it appears like Evil Strange or Mordo is the major antagonist of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it is not apparent from the trailer which character will be the main antagonist.

In the clip, Mordo warns Stephen that “the biggest threat to our universe is you,” but the trailer switches to Evil Strange, implying that Mordo is referring to Evil Strange alone – or to all incarnations of Stephen Strange across the multiverse – as the greatest threat.

In the film What If…? Eventually, Evil Strange grew to be all-powerful and ended up destroying his universe in an attempt to save Christine Palmer, whose death was a fixed moment in time that could not be reversed.

However, he was somewhat redeemable in the finale, when he assisted in saving the multiverse and was assigned the responsibility of keeping an eye on Killmonger/Zola.

Thus, it is uncertain if Evil Strange is the true villain of Multiverse of Madness. It is still to be seen whether Mordo’s fervent devotion in restoring balance to the world by chasing down rogue sorcerers and seizing their skills makes him a more severe threat to Doctor Strange and his allies.

Though Mordo expresses his regrets to Stephen in the teaser, there is also a quick view of him fighting Doctor Strange, although the latter is restrained by some sort of device.

Mordo and Evil Strange may both be involved in the Multiverse of Madness, or Marvel may have another trick in their sleeves – such as making Scarlet Witch the villain – to use in the event.

Then who is the main villain of the Multiverse of Madness?

Well, it seems unclear for now, but our best guess is that the evil Strange or Strange Supreme will be the movie’s main villain, and Dr. Strange could form an alliance with Mordo towards the final act of the film to defeat his evil twin.

The girl with the Star Jacket – Captain America?

Additional details are revealed in this trailer, including the fact that Captain America’s shield-like shield is seen on the back of a small girl’s jacket. America Chavez (also known as Miss America) is a dimensional pocket known as Utopian Parallel, and she is here to greet you.

Interdimensional travel and time travel are among the many qualities she possesses, as are super-speed and super-strength. Wanda’s ability to travel around the multiverse may inspire Chavez to use mind control to coerce Miss America into assisting her in her mission.

Wanda may use America to track down Billy and Tommy, who she heard talking about at the conclusion of the post-credit sequence for WandaVision.

Known in comics as the Utopian Parallel, it is a spatial pocket that exists outside of the multiverse and outside of the usual flow of time. During the teaser, we get a sight of Doctor Strange, Wanda, plus America Chavez united in a spatial gateway/portal of some sort.

In front of them was a mysterious edifice that was alive with energy, and the three multiversal warriors were staring at it.

Well, other theories also claim the girl to be Peggy Carter as the Captain America from another universe, again a reference from the ‘What If’ episode. However, Miss America seems much more accurate considering the trailer breakdown.

Nexus of Realities

The new Doctor Strange 2 video may also hint at the existence of a place that Marvel comics fans have long wished to see brought to life on screen.

Dr. Strange opens a foreboding door into what appears to be an unending vacuum filled with identical doors floating about or implanted in wandering pillars, as teased by the opening of such an ominous door into a seemingly unending void full of similar doors floating around or embedded in roaming pillars.

Additionally, in the middle, there’s a floating platform upon which an altar-like structure has been constructed. The place appears to be extremely similar to the Nexus of All Realities from the comics, which is a good thing.

As a result of the adventure’s multiversal nature, it seems to reason that the world that acts as an intersection of the multiverse would play a role in the plot.

In addition, director Sam Raimi would be the ideal choice to bring the film’s titular guardian, Man-Thing, to life — possibly even with the help of Raimi’s longtime partner Bruce Campbell.

Shuma-Gorath- The One-Eyed Octopus

Despite the teaser footage showing a tentacle-based one-eyed monster tossing a bus at Doctor Strange, there is a considerable dispute regarding who the figure is.

This may be a version of the very same tentacle monster that appeared in Marvel’s What…If? series of comic books.

While some say that this is Shuma Gorath, an ancient entity that was once a member of a species known as the Great Old Ones, others believe that it is Gargantos, a sea monster from ancient times.

Well, as the What If…? connection gets stronger, our guess is that this creature is the Shuma-Gorath. The character was initially referenced in 1972’s Journey into Mystery (Vol. 2) #1, but he did not appear until a year later in Marvel Premiere #10, published in 1973.

Will we see X-Men in Dr. Strange: Multiverse Madness?

One of the most enquired topics about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) among fans involves the X-Men.

While Fox retained ownership of the mutants, Marvel could not employ them. This means that prior X-Men stories did not set the seeds for mutant adventures in the future.

To incorporate the mutants into the MCU, Marvel will need to develop an explanation that makes sense in the context of the story.

When it comes to explaining how mutants first appeared in our universe, Doctor Strange 2 is precisely the right road to go down. We’re merely assuming here because the leaker didn’t provide any context for Wanda’s victory in the election.

However, given that she is a villain in most films, we must believe that her victory is something we can all agree on. Bringing her children into the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be the polar opposite of her famed “No More Mutants” declaration from the comics.

After all, the Marvel Cinematic Universe does not follow the same stories as the comics.

Apart from that, some famous movie investigators have shared that we could see Hugh Jackman making a guest appearance as Wolverine to introduce Mutants or X-men in the MCU.

Chaos Magic

Throughout its extensive history, the MCU has served as a haven for numerous types of magic.

Scarlet Witch’s Chaos Magic was formally labeled as such thanks to WandaVision, which showed that it could be absorbed and/or tapped into by others, as demonstrated on the program.

A brief scene in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer depicts the eponymous wizard surrounded by powerful spell bursts of this nature.

The context is kept unclear; however, it is possible that Doctor Strange is channeling the energy for an as-yet-unknown cause.

But it might also be the moment when Scarlet Witch’s MCU Phase 4 ambitions, which are heavily influenced by the Darkhold, are made plain when she actively targets her former Avengers allies.

Earth-616 or Earth-199999

We may be visiting Earth-616, which serves as the main Marvel reality in the comic books.

According to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jon Prophet Spotlight, who was previously featured in Wonder Woman 1984, will portray a character identified as “New Yorker 616” in the upcoming film.

This may be merely a reference to the number of an extra – someone who appears in specific sequences as a background figure – but we believe that the ‘616’ reference is more significant than that.

Earth-616 has been addressed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where it is referred to as Earth-199999, on many occasions, including in Thor: The Dark World and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

It isn’t out of the question that Strange, Wanda or other characters will go to the 616 realms shortly.

The teaser trailer for Stranger Things suggests that Strange, Wanda, and Chavez are looking out upon the multiverse from an unidentified place, suggesting they may very well do so.

There may also be additional characters who make their live-action debuts in the next episodes. Rumors from The Direct involve Adam Hugill (1917, The Watch), who is rumored to be playing an extraterrestrial minotaur named Rintrah in the film.

Rintrah is a comic book character who originates from an alternate dimension planet known as R’Vaal, and he has a long-standing comics relationship with Doctor Strange.

When combined with his somewhat powerful magical powers, Rintrah can be a valuable ally to Doctor Strange in this situation. A minotaur-like character appears to be involved in the events, according to a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment inside the video at the 1:35 mark.

As a result, Rintrah might be a member of the supporting cast.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Release Date

At one point, the picture was scheduled to premiere before Spider-Man: Homecoming. Because of the continuous effect of the COVID-19 epidemic, the film has been subjected to a number of postponements.

According to the studio, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is presently set to open in theatres on May 6, 2022.
