Did you watch Pop Kaun? If yes, then how would you rate it on a scale of one to five? Also, do you think Kunal Kemmu deserves much better?

A new film by the actor has been released on Zee5. Kanjoos Makhichoos is a comedy-drama, revolving around the theme of pennilessness.

It has a duration of almost two hours and the movie is only available to stream in Hindi. So, here is my Kanjoos Makhichoos review.

Kanjoos Makhichoos Movie Synopsis

Jamnaprasad is popular in his locality for being a miser. However, he secretly saves money to fulfill his father’s wish of going to the Char Dham Yatra.

When he finally sends his parents on the spiritual voyage, tragedy strikes as they go missing in the aftermath of a disastrous flood.

Directed by Vipul Mehta, Kanjoos Makhichoos stars Kunal Kemmu (Jamnaprasad), Shweta Tripathi (Madhuri), Piyush Mishra (Babuji), Alka Amin (Amma), Rajiv Gupta (Chaturvedi), and Raju Srivastava (Yadav) in lead roles.

Positive Aspects of Kanjoos Makhichoos

It is a well-intended movie. The idea is to focus on blatant corruption in small towns that goes unnoticed. People hardly ever report fearing harassment from government employees.

Kanjoos Makhichoos uses a family drama and laces it with punchlines and comedy to reflect on the same entertainingly.

The jokes in the film are intermittently funny. They are not consistently substantial. Since the storyline is loose, the fun also scatters all around.

Moreover, the crunch moments are well presented. It is only because of them that the movie can sustain itself.

How are the Performances?

Kunam Kemmu is dashing in Kanjoos Makhichoos. His illustration of a middle-class man is largely perfect. However, an actor of his caliber needed a stronger character to play.

A few more powerful moments were needed to bring his ability to its full potential. I am not saying Kemmu is off, what I feel is he deserved better.

His expressions, comic timing, and cheekiness are all brilliant in Kanjoos Makhichoos. Why is it that every new movie of Kemmu has only one good thing, which is him? Either good roles are not coming his way or the man has a bad selection habit.

Shweta Tripathi plays a homemaker. The resilient actress dives into a not-so-familiar territory and does a stupendous job.

Though she shines, her voice sounded different. She might have improvised for the role, which didn’t come out well. The vocal output is too thin and quite superficial.

Piyush Mishra brings his superior mantle to the game yet again. His unique semblance is exciting as always.

The difference in his stint lies in the fact that he doesn’t use his critically appreciated vocal intonations. It is all about being a normal father on screen.

The Downsides of Kanjoos Makhichoos

It has a thin plot, not convincing enough for a deeper excavation. The storyline is messy and the sloppy writing is always trying to force excitement into the plot.

Kanjoos Makhichoos misses the subtlety in creation, which could have actually made the film thrive on its own.

Moreover, the dramatized ending could not set itself beforehand. It came without a foundational base, making it a lot to digest eventually.

The makers needed to give a fresh touch to the old miser narrative to butter the execution. Yes, fighting corruption is significant, but you have to be logical while doing so.

You have to ensure your characters make logical choices. Some of the things in Kanjoos Makhichoos are too bizarre.

Additionally, there are moments of awkward comedy when you crush your face instead of chuckling.

Should you stream or skip Kanjoos Makhichoos?

My recommendation lies somewhere in the middle just like the film, which is good in patches.

FAQs

Is Kanjoos Makhichoos a family film?

There are no intimate scenes in the movie. But I am not too sure if calling Kanjoos Makhichoos a family film would be right. There are a couple of cuss words that should be kept away from children.
