What Did the Fumas Do to Gaku?

After falling into the sea six years ago, Gaku was found by the Fuma Ninjas. He had lost his leg as he got stuck in the ship’s propeller.

Upon discovering him, the Fumas took good care of him at their base.

Despite this, Gaku was initially reluctant to be in their vicinity since they were the arch-rivals of the Hattori clan (Shinobis).

Hence, he tried to run away on several occasions and even attempted suicide.

Afterward, Tsujioka emotionally brainwashed him by conveying that Shinobis kill people at the behest of politically motivated directions while Fumas are only inspired by themselves.

He gently touched his gullible veins, questioning his stance as a Shinobi.

Gradually, Gaku realized that the Fumas were right and started considering them as his real family.

Recognizing his awakening and efforts, Gaku was made Fuma Kotaro’s deputy head.

As a tradition, he was given a new name Crow, which was a symbol of Fuma.

This is why he became Fuma Kotaro the 20th after the death of Tsujioka Yosuke (in the eighth episode), who was Fuma Kotaro the 19th.
