Beautiful Phuket Island is one of Thailand’s most precious treasures. The island is 176 square kilometres of gorgeous white sand beaches and lush emerald green mountains rising above the Andaman Sea’s brilliant azure waters. Phuket is a tropical paradise, the temperature never drops below 25 degrees Celsius and the sun shines most of the year, except for the brief monsoon season. Even then Phuket is a wonderful place to be, a mysterious island shrouded in warm mists and gentle rain showers, its already verdant vegetation bursting with life!
There is a wealth of fun and entertainment to be had on the island’s friendly shores, but today we will cast our eye out to sea and consider the pleasures of chartering a private yacht in Phuket that you can set your course for adventure on! While there are many boat tours on offer around the island, they are crowded and offer a set schedule with no room for pleasant diversions. Being the skipper of your very own yacht means that you can go where you like when you like, the freedom of the sea is truly yours when you are the ship’s master and guiding hand!
Now that you are ready to set sail on your personal pleasure cruise through the many small islands and atolls of Phuket’s inviting waters, let’s find out what there is to see and experience!
Koh Rang Yai Island – Set sail to Koh Rang Yai Island and as you sail along you can marvel at the stunning limestone karsts along Phuket’s beautiful east coast. The island itself boasts glorious beaches and is a great place to stop at the pier for a delicious Thai seafood lunch. The green-coloured bay is a truly striking sight to behold!
Koh Panyi Islands – Right next to Phuket is an amazing village built entirely on stilts, a very unusual and fascinating place to visit. The island is home to a magnificent mosque that is the focal point of the local Muslim community. It’s best to visit the island early in the morning or during the twilight hours when the friendly local fishermen are going out and coming in. Even though tourism brings in much-needed funds, Ko Panyi’s economy depends mostly on agriculture and fishing- if you are lucky you can purchase some of their fresh catch for your meal!
Koh Tapu – Koh Tapu, which means ‘Nail Island’ is the karst limestone pinnacle made famous by The Man with the Golden Gun, a popular James Bond movie made in 1974. Thanks to the film showcasing the location, tourists have been coming to view this iconic Thai landmark for themselves ever since, and have dubbed it James Bond Island.
Koh Hae – More popularly known as Coral Island, it’s near the main island of Phuket. The bucolic Banana Beach at its far end is considered to be one of the best for romantic beach walks in the atoll. There are snacks available, and it’s a great place to anchor your yacht and enjoy some shore time.
There is so much to do and see around Phuket by boat that we have just barely scratched the surface. Come set sail and see it all for yourself!
