The Batman film franchise dominated the big screen prior to the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though Warner Bros. has had to start and stop several times since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy concluded, fan anticipation for the caped crusader from Gotham remains high. His most recent adaptation, The Batman, exemplifies this perfectly.

With The Batman, Matt Reeves (together with Peter Craig) has written and directed a completely fresh vision of Ben Affleck’s Batman character that audiences saw in Batman v Superman and The Justice League.

However, there really are certain rumblings about how Reeve’s version of Batman would connect with Warner Bros.’s efforts to continue building a DCEU to compete with Marvel.

The Batman will release in theaters on 4th March 2021. The film was initially supposed to feature Ben Affleck, who would also direct it. However, once Affleck left the project, the focus was switched to a different character. Because it is not part of the DCEU, it is now in its own timeline.

As a noir-style mystery, many fans believe that this film will be an adaptation of, or at the very least influenced by, the comic book series The Long Halloween.

As part of a year-long detective narrative, the Dark Knight was tasked with tracking down a serial murderer in that iconic miniseries, which included practically all of Batman’s adversaries, including the Joker.

Robert Pattinson Wearing The Cape

Till now, many brilliant actors have performed as Batman, including Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck.

Now, a very least-expected actor, Robert Pattinson, has joined the project. He will be on screen as Bruce Wayne/Batman in this Matt Reeves-directed picture.

Though initially, the casting raised questions among fans, people have gradually found faith in the Twilight Star to give justice to the Gotham hero after watching the trailers.

Most people are familiar with Pattison from his breakthrough role in the Twilight series. Although the actor was formerly known for “The Rover,” his subsequent roles in films such as “Maps to the Stars,” “The Lost City of Z,” “Good Time,” “High Life,” and “The Lighthouse” has been quite fascinating.

In Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, he made his big-budget comeback, and with The Batman, he is once again playing the starring part in what may be the star of a stage.

The Longest ‘Batman’ Movie Ever (2h 55m)

Allow me to explain why I believe it is a good thing that The Batman has such a long runtime before you start to lose your cool about the movie’s length.

When I hear that the duration will be this long, I feel it is so that Matt Reeves can build his vision of Gotham as distinct from everyone else’s interpretation.

Remember that this would be a year 2 Batman who is still learning the ropes of being a vigilante and that this is Gotham, which has always been awash in corruption.

We’ve never been able to witness what the real world of Gotham is like, except for a few television episodes such as ‘Gotham’.

Since this film will be more detective-oriented, I believe the runtime will allow the film to concentrate on Batman running all-around the city trying to figure out all the Riddler’s clues and reasons for his next victims even while seemingly uncovering more of the secrets that have been kept hidden in the underbelly of Gotham for so long.

Consequently, more world-building and much more storytelling results in a longer runtime, which is precisely what I want in a Batman film — just make sure to go to the restroom early and have a medium drink rather than an extra-large.

The Plot

When it comes to the Dark Knight’s universe, The Batman will take a more noir and mystery-oriented perspective than prior films, putting a greater emphasis on the Dark Knight’s investigative abilities than previous movies & drawing inspiration from films such as Chinatown and the work of Alfred Hitchcock.

However, Reeves is claimed to have recently revised the screenplay to add more action and provide fans with a more well-rounded superhero experience.

Pattinson learned and practiced judo, so expect some intense combat scenes in the film. Various Batman comics, including Batman: Year One and The Long Halloween, will reportedly be referenced in the movie.

It appears that this Batman will be darker than any other Batman we’ve seen previously, based on these influences.

Even though it hasn’t been recounted fully, like in Batman Begins, the origin tale of Batman has been told several times in movie montages in the past.

Reeves has opted not to produce another origin narrative for the character in a prudent decision. Bruce Wayne’s second year of living a double life as the caped vigilante will be the focus of the next Batman film.

“I didn’t want to write an origin story, but I wanted to tell a story that acknowledged his beginnings in the sense that they shaped who he is,” Reeves added.

It will be necessary to acknowledge Bruce’s billionaire position as part of remembering his ancestors’ roots in a society that is skeptical of billionaires and what they do (or don’t do) with their wealth.

In part, since this Bruce Wayne is still in his early 20s, he is not yet the world’s finest investigator that he will ultimately become, and we can expect to see him make several blunders.

Many fans believe that this film will be an adaptation of, or at the very least influenced by, the comic book series, The Long Halloween, based on the fact that it is a noir-style mystery.

The groundbreaking miniseries featured virtually all of Batman’s foes, and The Dark Knight was tasked with tracing the trail of a serial murderer throughout a year-long investigation.

Reviews from Early Screenings

For a while, early reactions to test screenings of the new Batman feature have started appearing on social media, and thus far, they seem to be favorable.

The word on the street is that it will be a full-on horror flick and that it even had people gasping out at the conclusion.

Here’s a synopsis from the experts after screening – “The Batman is really an intense, action-packed adventure that follows Batman in his early years, attempting to find the correct balance between anger and righteousness while investigating a horrific secret that has frightened the city of Gotham.”

“Mr. Pattinson gives a raw and emotional performance as the disillusioned and desperate vigilante awakened by the understanding that the hatred devouring him makes him no different from the merciless serial killer he is after.”

Truths and Lies about the Riddler’s Connection to True Crime

The Riddler terrorizes Batman in the first teaser for the film, and some fans believe he was inspired by the Zodiac Killer – and not simply because they are both obsessed with riddles, as some have speculated.

Leaked photographs of Paul Dano in costume show him wearing a mask as well as clear spectacles, which appear to be a replica of the outfit worn by the famed serial killer who terrorized Northern California in the 1960s, according to the source.

All Villains

Crime and supervillains abound in Gotham City, and Pattinson’s Batman will be forced to contend with a slew of adversaries. The Penguin will be played by Colin Farrell, and the Riddler will be played by Paul Dano.

John Turturro has been cast as crime leader Carmine Falcone. However, while The Batman may be on the verge of becoming Spider-Man 3 and that he would be confronted with an overwhelming number of enemies, this is not the case.

Not all of them will be given the same level of importance. Farrell has stated that he does not appear in many scenes as the Penguin.

At the same time, Carmine Falcone is typically portrayed as a third-string villain or a thread in Gotham’s larger tapestry of corruption, rather than as a supervillain in and of himself.

Keeping this in mind, it appears as though the Riddler will also be the principal antagonist of The Batman – which is in keeping with the film’s premise of being a detective narrative.

When it comes to the DC Universe, how does “The Batman” fit in?

Compared to the MCU, Warner Bros. has been unable to establish the same type of interwoven world of films and characters that Marvel has achieved with the MCU, despite its best efforts (or, at least, their most significant attempts).

Since they have officially abandoned the Snyderverse (despite the protestations of fans), it looks that the goal is for DC characters to exist on their own, with any possible crossovers occurring through another common tactic that the MCU is currently adopting – the multiverse.

We understand this because the upcoming film The Flash will be the first major foray into the new look plan.

It’s been revealed that Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will appear in The Flash, returning their roles from Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Ezra Miller will reprise his role as The Flash from Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and he will team up with The Batman and several Batmen.

To our knowledge, Robert Pattinson’s version of the character has not been confirmed for The Flash, but many believe that it will at the very least indicate that all of the films are tied to DC’s Extended Universe in some manner.
