Japan is the harbinger of Ninja stories. The latest Netflix series House of Ninjas just furthers this fact.

After reviewing it and posting the major plot markers of the show, I have now come up with its ending explanation.

As usual, this is a detailed explanation of the last thirty minutes so that the context runs parallelly for you.

The point of beginning of my explanation is when Haru and Gaku’s combat sequence ends.

Please be vary, what you are about to read is filled with spoilers.

House of Ninjas Detailed Ending Explained

Haru hears Tsujioka’s (aka Fuma Kotaro) voice telling him that he’s making the same mistake again by leaving Gaku alive

He follows the sound and finds smoke coming through a door. Upon going inside, Haru finds himself in the middle of a hall, filled with vapor.

Tsujioka is sitting on the floor, with legs folded underneath his body, and his back facing Haru.

The whole celestial atmosphere gives an optical illusion to the young man, who starts seeing three Tsujiokas sitting beside each other.

Fuma tells him, that the day has finally come and after the solar eclipse, he will govern the land of Japan.

In other words, he announces himself as an upcoming God. Kotaro gets hold of a sharp weapon kept beside him and stands up to face Haru.

As both get into a fighting position, Fuma Kotaro calls it the last ritual. But before Haru can do anything, he disappears from his sight.

Only his voice is audible through which he says once he kills Haru, he will become God.

This proposition is based on Tsujioka’s assumption that since Haru spared his life six years ago, he became the creator of his new life.

If the creator is dead, Fuma Kotaro would never die. Hence, he’d become God.

Haru stays vigilant holding the sword and looking around continuously.

Fuma asks him to rejoice as he’s about to become a sacrifice to a God. He hits Haru from behind but by the time the latter turns around, he vanishes again.

Tsujioka then comes sliding on the floor to slash his knee with his weapon. Again, Haru cannot catch even a trace of him.

Fuma announces the bloodline of Hattori will end tonight. He completely dominates Haru, injuring almost every part of his body.

Blood squelching around, the youngster fails to get a hold of Fuma Kotaro the 19th.

Tsujioka brings him to his knees and eventually makes him fall onto the ground, almost like a defeated warrior.

On the other hand, Yoko, Soichi, and Nagi are put under pressure by a herd of Fumas. They are cornered, and put on the brink of death.

However, a sudden attack from the opposite end comes as a respite for the trio. A gang of female warriors can be seen appearing amid dazzling sparkles.

Five of them are standing on top of a truck. When Soichi asks for their credentials, they introduce themselves as Guardians of the Demon Gate

Nagi expresses discontentment as the Tawaras are supposed to be the last Shinobis.

This indicates that the females calling themselves Guardians of the Demon Gate are also Shinobis and they are there to help the Tawaras.

How Did Guardians of the Demon Gate Come to Save the Tawara Family?

Possibly, it was Haru’s grandmother who went to ask for assistance from one of her old friends, along with Riku.

While the five entrants turn the battle upside down by slashing Fumas, Soichi lands in a strange situation.

When one of the Guardians comes close to him to save him, he realizes that she is none other than Mayuko-kun, the sales manager at his brewery.

He is shocked to the core to find out that Mayuko is also a Shinobi.

It means Mayuko’s induction into his brewery was also planned by his mother.

Haru slowly gets up and finds Fuma Kotaro approaching him. He quickly gets into position and focuses himself with sheer grit.

Midway, Fuma disappears like earlier and comes from behind. But this time around, Haru’s concentration helps him stop his attack.

He stretches his hands to his back to block Fuma’s sword. Showing his supreme Ninja abilities, Haru then cuts off Tsujioka’s left hand in an unprecedented move.

However, Fuma Kotaro is unflinched. He takes the arm thus fallen and tries to put it back on the remaining part of his hand.

He does so because he considers himself a God. According to him, God’s hand must get back to its original place.

When this doesn’t happen, Fuma is surprised to the core. He takes off his warrior helmet and calmly comes face to face with Haru.

He reiterates the words he had said to him when Haru had gone to meet him at the Gentenkai HQ.

From not changing at all to exuding a gentle sound, Fuma Kotaro tries to manipulate him.

He requests him to join the Fumas in their quest and help fulfill the solar eclipse, which would in turn set so many souls free in Japan.

Haru tells him that his plan is over but Fuma Kotaro denies the same. He says the solar eclipse means something else.

It leaves Haru surprised and he asks what he’s trying to convey. However, instead of answering, Tsujioka turns around and walks to the other side.

He slyly pulls a sharp weapon from his mouth and quickly turns around before throwing it at the young Shinobi.

However, he finds Haru absent.

Haru cleverly zooms near him and puts the sword against his neck. But before he can finish things off, Gaku stabs Fuma Kotaro from behind.

He falls to the ground and utters “Crow,” helplessly, before Gaku lands another blow on his chest to finish him for good.

Haru asks him why did he kill Tsujioka to which Gaku replies by asking his brother to stay the way he is.

Why did Gaku Kill Tsujioka aka Fuma Kotaro the 19th?

He killed him as a favor to his brother as he didn’t want him to change. Haru had hardly killed anyone before, and Gaku wanted him to stay like that.

Gaku leaves the place and Haru tries to follow him but his injured leg fails him. Soon, Soichi, Yoko, and Nagi arrive at the scene and take Haru back home.

At their house, Oki expresses happiness at the work done by the Tawara Shinobis. It is because of their efforts the spread of the poison was stopped and the solar eclipse plan prevented.

Hamashima reveals that the Fumas had planned to deliver the poison (flower powder) to the Gentenkai disciples all over the country.

The disciples, amounting to 30000 in number, were supposed to further distribute the Powder of Hope to everyone around them.

Hamashima further states that Gaku is now considered a felon and if the Tawaras get in touch with him, they would be charged.

Hence, the agency would keep a strict eye on the family for the time being. He shows them a tool and asks if they use anything of that sort.

Grandma quickly takes the weapon in her hands and makes fun of the Fumas for using such an obvious weapon.

In reality, she was acting because the tool belonged to Guardians of the Demon Gate. She didn’t want Hamashima to learn about them and her role in bringing them on board.

As Oki and Hamashima exit the house, Haru asks the latter about what Tsujioka had told him i.e., the other potential plan behind the solar eclipse.

The old man replies saying they are still investigating and he hopes it turns out to be a lie. He commends Haru for his work till now and exits.

Riku comes from behind and asks Haru about Karen. He expresses his desire to see her. Haru can do nothing but wish it was that easy to bring her back.

For the uninitiated, Hamashima had spared Karen’s life on Haru’s word that he would never see her again. If he goes back on his promise, they would kill her.

The scene cuts to Karen’s house where she is listening to news about the eclipse. Her attention quickly shifts to the TV when the presenter talks about the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) presidential election.

Through the news, she finds out that the senior members of the party will gather at the Royce Tokyo Hotel in the afternoon, where the four candidates will make their final appeals.

Mukai is also among the candidates. Karen connects the dots and realizes that the eclipse plan has something to do with it.

Her assumption is based on her earlier findings when Fumas’ bold steps coincided with Mukai’s kidnapping six years ago.

It means they would again do something big and the solar eclipse happening at the same time further strengthened her theory.

Without wasting any time, she dashes into the hotel in the background of the solar eclipse taking over the nation.

There, she spots Mukai but due to the security, Karen first decides to be sure about her assumptions.

In the hotel’s kitchen, she finds Ayame holding a tray of drinks. This is enough evidence for her to make a move.

She rushes to the guards and asks them to evacuate everybody. However, they pay no heed to her request. Instead, she is laughed at.

The security stops her from going near Mukai. But the lady allows Karen to express herself.

She informs her that the people who had kidnapped her six years ago are present in the hotel and they plan on harming her.

Expectedly, Mukai laughs at Karen’s revelations and directs the cops to escort her outside.

The representative then goes to raise a toast, taking a glass of champagne served by Gaku. She gets on the stage and delivers a speech to the audience gathered inside the hall.

While being taken away, Karen tries her level best to convince the security guards.

In the end, she finds a fire emergency button on the way and forcefully breaks the shackles of the guards before pressing the button.

However, by then, people in the hall have already consumed the poisoned alcohol, including Mukai and other representatives.

One by one, they begin collapsing to the ground as a consequence of the toxin.

Gaku and Ayame leave the premises at the right time.

Hamashima and his team find out about the hotel incident and it doesn’t take much time for them to realize it was the real solar eclipse plan of the Fumas.

The Bureau’s landline phone rings and Hamashima answers the call.

He is welcomed by Ayame’s voice who informs him of a change in the chain of command.

From now on, he would have to follow her orders. Hamashima affirmatively replies to her authoritative words.

News channels report that Yoshikawa will replace Shigeru Kato as the Chief of the Joint Staff, prompted by the death of the latter in the poisoning incident.

Yoshikawa is the same guy we had seen at the beginning of the eighth episode.

He is most probably a Fuma and his induction means the entire Japanese administration, including the armed forces, will now be run by the Fumas.

After the death of all other contenders, Mukai becomes the only surviving presidential candidate of the NDP.

When Grandma sees her background on the television, she is surprised to know that Mukai belongs to the Sakaki family.

The scene cuts to an isolated place where Mukai meets Ayame and Gaku.

She greets Gaku as Fuma Kotaro the 20th. He asks her the importance of her family tree and why did they had to conceal her Hojo lineage.

In reply, she says all her time in the office, she had tried to revise the constitution but the anti-revisionists had put up a strong front.

Ayame interrupts her in between and calls her a disgrace to the legacy of the Hojo clan. She warns her to do well in her role as a puppet of the Fumas.

Mukai agrees with her. Gaku tells them that as long as they have the scroll, the Demon Gate will open and Japan will be on top as a dominant threat when it happens.

He says Japan will be strong again. It seems to be a call for a world war led by the Fumas.

We are then shown the scenes at the Tawara household, where Yoko emotionally reminisces Gaku, looking at his picture while Grandma continues to prepare Riku physically to be the next Ninja of the family.

Haru is poised to take over the brewery shop from his father and he plans to quit his current job to achieve the same.

He goes to the restaurant where Karen and he used to meet.

She is sitting at the same place but he doesn’t go inside and instead consoles himself with just her vision before leaving the scene. Season one ends here.

What is the Bureau of Ninja Management?

It is a fictional secret agency tasked with working with the Ninjas and looking after them. House of Ninjas never shows who exactly runs the agency.

However, there are two occasions when we see a phone call indicating there are people above Hamashima who give him directions.

While in the second episode, we are simply shown ‘higher-ups’ communicating through the landline phone, in the final episode, after a change in leadership, we get to see Ayame calling Hamashima on the same phone.

It might mean that the Japanese government had created the agency to keep Japan safe from evil forces with the help of Shinobis and other ninjas excluding Fuma Ninjas, who were considered a threat to Japan.

Now, in the second season, it would be interesting to see how Hamashima tackles the leadership change as Fumas take the throne.

What Was the Solar Eclipse Plan in Reality in House of Ninjas?

The real plan was to bring in a forced change in the leadership of Japan. Gaku was sent to mislead the Shinobis and the Bureau of Ninja Management.

He mindfully guided them towards a larger conspiracy meant to kill people by making them consume the powdered extract of the yellow flower aka the Powder of Hope.

In reality, the Fumas planned to put Mukai at the helm of the country and Yoshikawa and others in important positions in the security forces.

They did this by killing any kind of opposition to their appointments. The toxin in the yellow flower made sure no one could be saved.

How Did Gaku Become Fuma Kotaro the 20th?

You can find the answer in my previous blog.

What was the Powder of Hope?

Powder of Hope was, in reality, the toxin derived after crushing the yellow flower. The Gentenkai cult led by Tsujioka told its followers that those who consumed it would be able to purify their souls.

Will There Be a Season 2 of House of Ninjas?

Yes, unless there is another season, we won’t know several secrets, including the demon gate, the guardians of the demon gate, the real evils of the story, and other things.

Also, Riku turning into a grown-up Shinobi would be an interesting angle.

Considering the performance of the first season, it is accepted that Netflix will renew House of Ninjas for another outing, at least.
